Web4bio releases the new version of DoPlanning
April de 2013
The new version of Web4bio’s flagship productivity tool includes a number of new features, mostly based on suggestions from users.
The most obvious change to appreciate at first glance is its new interface, completely redesigned to be more intuitive and friendly, with new options for viewing and editing content. DoPlanning users can also appreciate the inclusion new work items, such as scheduling tasks, events and issuing interconsultations. DoPlanning interface also includes enhancements in usability, as it allows copying of work items between areas, publishing files simultaneously in several areas or the new ability to upload files directly to an area.
As for their interaction with hardware, developers of this new version have worked hard to improve the accessibility of the application from mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, tablets and smartphones). DoPlanning can now be used from these devices almost as fluently as it is used on a computer, making this application a true mobile workstation from which for example, the user can share images or documents received by email.
The big news however is the possibility of using DoPlanning as web content management system or CMS. The new programming of the application is able to relate the content of any web page with the content and structure of DoPlanning, making maintenance and updating of web contents a very simple task, independent and fully integrated with the other functions of the tool.

The award won by ASEBIO’s Spanish Biotech Platform shows once more the high quality achieved by Web4Bio.
December 2011
The Spanish Biotech Platform, which has won one of the 2011 Best Ideas in Health Prizes (awarded by the healthcare journal Diario Médico) in the management category, is an initiative conducted by Asebio that aims to improve the way all the different agents involved in the science-technology-business system interact, and therefore to promote innovation and technology transfer in the biotechnology sector.
The use of up-to-date, web 2.0-based communication channels is at the core of the platform in order to achieve its goals. The project was commissioned to Web4Bio, whose team developed a whole system consisting of a web portal, three specialized blogs and a strong presence inside social networks. Recently a partnering tool has been added to the platform, designed to coordinate schedules for all the participants in the different events organized by the Platform. Its corporate image, which serves as a link between the different system components, has also been designed by the team in Web4Bio. Thus, Web4Bio has managed to create a solid, flexible and open online platform which facilitates the exchange of information among all the participants in this Platform.
Web4Bio Launches a New Tool to Organize Partnering Events
November 2011
Developed for the Spanish Biotech Platform managed by Asebio Technical Secretariat, this tool has made possible for the platform to consolidate as a basic pillar in the promotion of public-private partnership within the biotechnology sector. Along these lines, the new Web4Bio application is offered as the most suitable tool to manage and organize customized partnering events.
The application has already been successfully tested at the Regenerative Medicine Forum, held last November 23, 2011 at the National School of Health of the Institute of Health Carlos III, where more than 40 participants managed to organize their schedules and interact through this tool.
Its interface, web based and available in a bilingual format, makes it perfect for both domestic and international events. According to Beatriz Palomo, Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat of the Platform, the tool allows a quick and easy management even when dealing with several partnering events, as it gives attendants a great deal of freedom and flexibility to organize their own schedule while maintaining direct and ongoing contact with others event participants.
BiotechSpain more and more active in social networks
Noviembre de 2011
BiotechSpain the information portal on biotechnology, is increasing its activity inside social networks. If a couple of months ago it was celebrating to have reached 200 followers on Twitter, this month has exceeded 280, so that the barrier of 300 could be overcome by the end of this year if progression continues at this pace.
Not only the great number of followers shows the importance of this initiative-their comments (BiotechSpain has even been recommended as Friday Favourite by Health Spaces Research, managed by the Progress and Health Foundation) also bet on the contents that are regularly added to this portal.
The presence of BiotechSpain in social networks contributes actively to the dissemination of the most recent advances in biotechnology, providing at the same time key information to other agents in the sector. BiotechSpain managers aim to become major players in the web 2.0 biotech world, in order to help form the increasingly active Spanish biotechnology "virtual team".

October 2011
BiotechSpain is emerging as an increasingly helpful portal for those who want to keep up to date on the Spanish biotechnology sector. In our first year we have already got more than 200 followers on Twitter, our growth in popularity bringing us close to other providers of biotechnology information. The BioteschSpain Twitter mainly draws on the news and content included on our site, although we also take into account other channels of information to keep a fluid "social communication" on the net. BiotechSpain expects to continue increasing its followers, by regularly providing information about scientific developments related to biotechnology and news on the sector. Thank you for being a part of it! |
The web portal Divestadistica.com, developed by Web4bio, receives an Honorable Mention for the "Science in Action" awards.
July 2011
The web portal divestadistica.com, dedicated to popularization of statistical science and developed by Web4bio for the Andalusian School of Public Health, Granada, won an Honorable Mention in the category of Popular Science Projects, for the "Science in Action" Award Program. The jury gave this mention stating that the site "brings this science closer to the general public in a rigorous, fun and above all, useful way through a wonderful portal for statistical science outreach" In order to provide content and formats tailored for the general public, Web4bio developed an interactive website that includes, among other curiosities a statistical laboratory, which allows users to experience the impact of applying well known statistical laws in various theoretical scenarios.
"Science in Action" is an initiative of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Living Science (Ciencia Viva), the Royal Spanish Physical Society, the Geological Society of Spain and the Spanish Open University, aimed at bringing science and technology to the public. Among its activities, Science in Action holds an annual competition for Spanish or Portuguese teachers, researchers and popularizers willing to submit their projects. This year, the jury emphasized the high quality of all the projects in the competition, which, according to their statement, has made really difficult to choose the best and hindered their final decision. This adds a quality factor to the projects that have been awarded a prize by this initiative.

Era7 a bioinformatics company makes one of the first functional genome annotations of the Escherichia coli bacteria at the centre of the German outbreak.
June 2011
After the publication by the Chinese genomics center BGI of a preliminary version of the DNA sequence of the E. coli bacteria, which has probably caused the European outbreak starting in Germany, Era7 achieves in less than 24 hours a first functional annotation based on the preliminary assembly by the English scientist Nick Loman.
This has been possible thanks to the "BG7", a method of bacterial genome annotation that the R &D department in Era7 has recently developed and continuous communication over the Internet within the scientific community through blogs, websites and Twitter. The functional annotation is the step that allows us to discern what genes and functions are responsible for its pathogenicity and virulence.

Era7 accepted as a member of the LLSA (LivingLab Salud de Andalucía, Andalusian Health LivingLab)
June 2010
Living Labs philosophy arises from a new open innovation culture promoted by the European Union.
This new innovation methodology considers users (professionals both in the field to which the Living Lab belongs and in the social environment where solutions are to be implemented and tested) as the main actors in the innovation process from its early stages (identifying needs and conceptualizing ideas) to the validation and improvement of the results achieved.
This project, LLSA (http://livinglabsalud.es), provides an innovation community open to all its members (administration, universities, companies and end users) whose scope for action in the health sector pursues the development of technologies, products and innovative services that meet the real needs of users in the Andalusian Public Health System, being they at the center of the innovation process, from identifying needs and conceptualizing ideas to final validation of the results provided by the developed solution.
LLSA members will help each other through working groups and participation in developing specific projects to meet the needs identified in specific areas of interest to the Andalusian health care sector, such as:
In Era7 we will participate in projects suited to our expertise and skills, especially those regarding telemedicine, collaborative tools, e-learning, text analysis, bioinformatics and web & multimedia technologies, as well as Internet technologies in general.
